GDP IDF SAI

A new dairy-sector methodology aligned with the recently released GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Standard (LSRS) is now available for public consultation, and GDP members are encouraged to provide feedback by September 25.

The LSRS provides a common global standard for companies to account for and report greenhouse gas emissions and removals from land-based activities. However, as a generic standard, it does not provide the sector-specific guidance needed to apply it consistently within dairy.

To address this, Global Dairy Platform and SAI Platform brought together a task force of dairy processors, cooperatives, and buyers to develop practical guidance for applying the LSRS across the dairy sector. Task force members have invested significant time and expertise in developing a single approach designed to support robust, consistent, and responsible implementation across different dairy businesses and geographies.

The proposed guidance is now undergoing a four-week public consultation coordinated by the International Dairy Federation (IDF). Following consultation and consideration of the feedback received, the methodology is intended to become part of the IDF catalogue of guidance for the global dairy sector.

We strongly encourage GDP members to review the proposed methodology and contribute to the consultation before it closes on September 25.
