Global Dairy Platform’s Executive Director Donald Moore Discusses Dairy and Sustainable Agriculture at the Vatican’s Centesimus Annus pro Pontifice (CAPP) Foundation Conference
At the Vatican’s Centesimus Annus pro Pontifice (CAPP) Foundation conference on New Policies And Lifestyles in the Digital Age, Global Dairy Platform’s Executive Director Donald Moore was invited to present the dairy sector’s perspective in a panel Towards a sustainable food chain: responsibility against the ‘throwaway culture’.
Moore, who is also currently the Chairman of the International Agri-Food Network and the Private Sector Mechanism to the UN Committee on World Food Security, discussed (begins at 35:18 in the linked video) the role of the private sector in the development of new technologies, business models, multi-stakeholder platforms, partnerships and international platforms that are already having a significant impact on reducing food loss and waste.
Moore also explained the importance of the dairy sector to the livelihoods of one billion people around the world and the vital role that the 133 million dairy farms play in the circular economy – by converting food byproducts and crop residues into high-quality proteins and nutrition for human consumption and even using manure to produce valuable fertilizers, soil amendment and energy.
Engaging in societal events such as the CAPP Foundation provide an opportunity for the dairy sector to share and position its broader message, explaining how dairy can be a part of the solution to key issues affecting society.
