Donald Moore elected chair of the International Agri-food Network

Rome, 9 June 2017: Donald Moore, Executive Director of the Global Dairy Platform, and Chairman of the Dairy Sustainability Framework (DSF), has been elected Chair of the International Agri-Food Network (IAFN). The IAFN works on a wide variety of issues relating to agriculture, food and nutrition, and serves as the focal point for the Private Sector Mechanism (PSM) of the United Nations Committee on World Food Security (CFS).

Moore will lead the IAFN in the next two years in bringing together international agricultural associations representing over 10,000 businesses worldwide in 135 countries. “The private sector has a fundamental role to play in creating a sustainable future. We are committed to working together with multilateral organizations, Rome-based UN agencies, and other key actors to promote agricultural development, achieve food security and improved nutrition,” stated Moore upon his nomination at IAFN’s Annual General Meeting in Rome.

Moore succeeds Jaine Chisholm Caunt, Director General of the Grain and Feed Trade Association (GAFTA). “Over the past seven years, agri-food businesses have demonstrated a strong engagement to contribute to the discussions at the UN Committee on World Food Security. We look forward to supporting Moore in his new role, and we are certain that with his leadership, the private sector mechanism will continue to have a positive impact in the global debate on food security and nutrition,” added Chisholm Caunt.

Moore is the Executive Director of the Global Dairy Platform (GDP), based in Chicago USA, and he serves as Chairman of the Global Dairy Agenda for Action (GDAA). Formed by four of the world’s leading dairy cooperatives in 2006, GDP’s mission is to align and support the dairy sector to promote sustainable dairy nutrition. GDP’s work programme spans; Nutritional Security, Sustainability, Dairy Development, Marketing/Communications and is engaged on behalf of the sector with the United Nations agenda. Today GDP has more than 90 members from countries around the globe.
